Julia Berman
Julia Steffy Berman's work has a whimsical, three-dimensional quality in every medium she uses. She specializes in children’s and editorial illustrations. Even her evil characters have sweetness to them. She has many sources of inspiration that include dreams, her childhood, faces, figures of speech, and places she loves to visit. Her goal is always to create characters, scenes and moods that viewers of any age can appreciate. Her work begins by developing the point of view and the atmosphere of the piece. Julia then works in thumbnails and gathers reference photos to help her combine reality with her imagination. In her whimsical style, she likes to exaggerate perspective and characters. Most of her work is done in layers of oil, acrylic and watercolor. Julia also enjoys digitizing her work and using Photoshop to improve the look of the image. She has a B.F.A. in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design and currently resides in the Kansas City area.
