William Cook
William Cook graduated in 1976, Towson University, BS, and led a prolific studio life as a fine artist for several years, making his living in lettering until 1986. The fine art progressed from large scribble paintings to small but intense pencil scribbles on paper, and then to pen and ink pieces with some realistic imagery. This work became the basis for the illustration style he is known for. Eventually in 1987 a portfolio was assembled and art directors and graphic designers were approached. In 1988 William's work appeared in American Showcase, Vol 12, and an illustration carear was born. The early work oriented towards advertising and gradually became more dominated by architectural works in a graphic design environment. The work ranges from little spot pieces and custom illustrations to the large, intricate visualization projects such as the campus aerials, the historic reconstructions, and the very legible but artsy wayfinding maps and site plans. William still loves to creates fine art pieces occasionally but spends most of his spare time reading on a variety of topics.
