Sterling Hundley
Sterling Hundley graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1998. As a student, Hundley received National exposure through the Society of Illustrators professional show, as well as through their student scholarship competition. Hundley attended the Illustration Academy in Kansas City, Missouri for two subsequent years, and in 2002, helped to relocate the Academy from Kansas City to his hometown and Alma Mater. There he serves as one of three core instructors. Additionally Hundley served as a visiting professor at Virginia Commonwealth University from 2002-2003.
Hundley’s work has appeared in the pages of Rolling Stone, GQ, Entertainment Weekly, The Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, the New Yorker, the Washington Post, The Progressive, Vibe, Utne Reader, and Virginia Living. Additional clients of note include Red Bull, The Grammys, Harper Collins, Penguin Putnam, Random House, Scholastic, Knopf, Sterling Publishing, Dellas Graphics, Mullen Design, Major League Baseball, the Martin Agency, and Spotco.
In 2004 Hundley was featured as one of only two illustrators in Print’s annual “Young Visual Artist” section, which profiles 20 exceptional visual artists under 30. His work is frequently selected by various juries to appear in Communication Arts, American Illustration, Print Magazine, 3x3, Graphis, and Step-by-Step Graphics, as well as exhibitions and Annuals of the Societies of Illustrators in New York and Los Angeles, the Society of Publication Designers in New York, and the Illustrators Club in Washington, D.C. He has been the recipient of one Gold and two Silver medals from the Society of Illustrators NY, as well as Gold and Silver medals from the Illustrators Club in Washington, DC, a Gold Medal from the National Education Association, and a gold medal from the Evangelical Press Association.
Hundley has also served as a juror for the Society of Illustrators in New York, and CMYK magazine.
In addition to painting, drawing and writing, Sterling spends his summers teaching full time as one of four core instructors at the Illustration Academy in Sarasota, Florida, as well as a full-time instructor at Virginia Commonwealth University.
