Don Oehl
Don’s career in the arts began in his native Chicago where he studied dance at Chicago's Academy for the Performing Arts. His desire to travel and thirst for new experiences led him to Paris—where he studied drawing and painting at the Ecole du Louvre for 3 years. He was hooked, and his ever growing love of the arts—be it dance, art or design—led him to seek new ground. His wonderlust and desire for fresh creative energy drew him to New York in 1995. Just walking the streets, dancing or rollerskating inspired him, and he’s remained in the city ever since.
After a two year Fashion Illustration course at NYC’s FIT, Don landed a job with a point of purchase design company, where he developed his design skills, working on point of sale and window displays for clients that included Clinique, Aveda and Bergdorf Goodman. From there he moved to publishing, working as a designer for Seventeen Magazine.
All the while, Don was developing his illustrations, finding it to be this ultimate way of expressing himself through fashion, movement, shapes, color, interaction, humor and expression. Clients began to show an interest and he made the decision to devote himself full time to his true love—fashion illustration.
Don continues to seek inspiration from his surroundings—seeking to always evolve and use his illustration in fresh ways—in turn inspiring those who see it.
