John Shelley
John Shelley began his illustration career in London, his first picture book being shortlisted for the Mother Goose Award. An interest in Japanese art took him to Tokyo in 1987, where he freelanced full time as an illustrator for 21 years, working chiefly in advertising in addition to illustrating over 40 children's books for Western and Japanese markets. He returned to the UK in 2008, but still maintain strong connections with Japan.
He stands on the Board of Advisors of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), and is a member of the Association of Illustrators (AOI) and Society of Authors (SOA).
