Owen Smith

Owen Smith uses rich color and bold figure compositions in a style reminiscent of the Social Realist and WPA painters of the Great Depression. Other paintings recall the lurid covers of pulp magazines and paperback novels of the 1940's and 50's. Owen's award winning paintings are featured in books about The New Yorker and Rolling Stone and have hung in galleries in the New York, Los Angeles, Rome and Milan. Smith has created 17 New Yorker covers and is illustrating his third children's book. His album cover illustrations for recording artist Aimee Mann won a Grammy in 2006. His Public Art Projects include a series of mosic murals for a New York City Subway station. Currently Smith is creating murals, relief sculpture and mosics for a San Francisco Hospital. Owen lives with his wife and two sons near San Francisco.
